2011 10 20 Guest Speaker: Asiana Ponciano

As I learned at the Hawaii Social Media Summit yesterday, social media is now turning into a profession–a professional perhaps tailor-made for grad students in Communication.

I wanted you to learn about the corporate uses of social media, and I got a great guest speaker to do it.

Asiana Ponciano is the Social Media Marketing Coordinator at Hawaiian Airlines, the 11th largest airline in the United States.

Here is the airline’s Facebook Page and its Twitter account.

Prior to Hawaiian Airlines, Asiana worked for College Connections Hawaii, an educational non-profit located in Honolulu, where she helped develop their social media strategy.

Asiana was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Journalism and a minor in English.

During her seven years in San Francisco, Asiana freelanced for publications like the City Star newspaper and Performer Magazine. She was also an online contributor for Examiner.com and CitizensReport.org.

Besides print and online media, Asiana worked as an editorial assistant for women’s lifestyle brand called Soma Girls TV, which created online videos. Asiana also co-hosted a tech and trends podcast for women called Girls Gone Geek.
