We have a newly renovated classroom, MP 328, 1188 Fort Street Mall. I have not been able to see it yet, but the new classrooms are supposed to be so high-tech no one quite understands what’s in there.
We have a class Facebook page. It will be our main mode of quick communication, and a chance for you to talk to your fellow students and me. Click here or on the Facebook link on the right rail. (It has a complicated address, so you may wish to bookmark it.)
Please LIKE the Facebook page. (That’s not the same as “friending” me or anyone else.) Liking the page will allow you to post on it.
In this class, we’ll be looking at the fast-moving Communications revolution. It’s moving so fast that insights are emerging daily. Part of your class participation will be posting a relevant article to the class Facebook page each week for your classmates to read and discuss.
But feel free to also use the page more casually, to comment or ask questions about the class. In fact, your first post can simply be to say hello to your classmates. It’s your page—class interaction through social media.
Facebook is no good for longer posts, so I have started this WordPress blog. When I put up a new post on the blog, I will also put a link on FB.
You will need a blog as well. It doesn’t have to be WordPress. If you have a blog already (that you’re willing to let the class access), simply email me the url.
If you don’t, you can sign up for a free WordPress blog here. You don’t have to do this right away, but by the second week. Any problems or questions, bring them to the first class.
So I will repost it here. (The syllabus, at least the schedule part, is likely to change, so keep up with this blog.) 2011 Fall COM6910 Syllabus
